About the release
The Australian menswear label Song For The Mute and adidas return for Spring Summer 2026 with one of their most varied collections to date. The drop is split between two silhouettes: the SFTM-008 Tokyo in three colourways and the SFTM-009 Samba LX Freizeit reimagined as a derby-inspired boot in two colourways.
The Tokyo trio takes the 1964 Olympic track silhouette and runs it in Bluebird, Black and Off-White, all in women's sizing. The Samba LX Freizeit gets the more dramatic rework, dressed up in Black and Brown leather with derby-style sole units in unisex sizing. It is one of the more interesting Samba reinterpretations of the year.
All five pairs release on 15 May 2026 via Song For The Mute, adidas and select retailers. The Samba LX Freizeit pairs are confirmed at £160. Tokyo pricing is yet to be confirmed.

SFTM-008 Tokyo: the trio
The Tokyo silhouette is an adidas track shoe originally built for the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games and revived as a lifestyle model in recent seasons. Song For The Mute first previewed these three SFTM-008 colourways as pre-production samples last summer, and they are now finally landing at retail. All three pairs share the same construction philosophy: corduroy and suede on the toe and lace panels with contrasting suede Three Stripes, but each takes its upper material in a different direction.
Tokyo 'Bluebird'
The Bluebird pair runs the same blue tone you find on adidas shoeboxes themselves, and it is the boldest of the three. A thick, textured nylon fabric handles the upper, contrasted by off-white and grey panelling. Style code KJ4402.
Tokyo 'Black'
The Black pair takes the most casual route of the three, swapping the textured nylon for a wide knit mesh upper for a more breathable summer feel. Gold accents and white detailing keep the colourway from feeling too plain. Style code KI4737.
Tokyo 'Off-White'
The Off-White pair sits in the middle, using the same thick textured nylon as the Bluebird but in a softer, more wearable palette. Core Black Three Stripes and a yellow accent keep the colourway interesting. Style code KJ4401.
SFTM-009 Samba LX Freizeit: the boot reimagining
The more talked-about half of the collection is the Samba LX Freizeit reimagining. Song For The Mute has taken the Samba Freizeit, an offshoot of the standard Samba that uses adidas' Freizeit sole unit (German for "leisure time"), and reworked it into something closer to a dressy derby boot. Both colourways feature a large black boot sole with weatherproofing that stretches above the midsole and onto the bottom of the upper, similar to a formal duck boot.
It is one of the boldest reinterpretations of the Samba in recent memory, taking the silhouette out of the terrace and into something that sits closer to a tailored boot than a sneaker. Both pairs land at £160.
Samba LX Freizeit 'Brown'
The Brown pair uses tumbled brown leather across the upper with off-white Three Stripes and gilded eyelets. The school-shoe energy is intentional, and the formal black sole unit ties the whole construction together. The most versatile of the two for everyday wear. Style code KI4762.
Samba LX Freizeit 'Black'
The Black pair runs the same construction in rich black leather with white Three Stripes and matching gilded eyelets. It is the sharper of the two and the option that leans furthest into the formal footwear territory. Style code KI4761.

Song For The Mute x adidas: the collab story
Song For The Mute is an Australian menswear label founded by Melvin Tanaya and Lyna Ty in 2010. The name reflects the brand's intention to give a voice to the voiceless, and the work is built around clothing that tells stories of personal experience and material craft. Each season is deliberately distinct from the last.
The brand's adidas partnership began in 2022 and has produced one of the more consistent and respected collaborative runs in recent years. Past efforts have moved through tech runners, the SL72, the Taekwondo, the adiZero PR and a slouchy Samba reimagining, with each season showing genuine range. The SS26 collection now adds the Tokyo trio and the Samba LX Freizeit boot rework to that catalogue, continuing the run as one of adidas' most interesting ongoing partnerships.
Why this collection matters
SFTM x adidas is one of the few collaboration runs that feels genuinely thoughtful. The brand picks unusual silhouettes, applies real material consideration and tends to stay away from anything that looks like a quick flip. The Samba LX Freizeit boot is a strong example: taking the Samba into formal footwear territory is the kind of move only a brand with full creative trust gets to make.
The Tokyo trio is the more wearable side of the drop and a smart commercial play, while the Samba boots are likely to be the more talked-about piece for collectors. At £160 the Samba pairs are well-priced for the level of construction. Tokyo pricing should land in a similar range.
